woman attacked on El Platform
man dies after SEPTA concourse beating
How much shit needs to happen before SEPTA makes their police/security force visible? Sure community members are "trying" to start a Guardian Angels project but shouldn't the people who get payed to protect us, actually protect us? Obviously the kids have no fears of retribution - a quick punch, a quick stab, a bunch of kicks, no one is going to step in because the city has developed its own culture of fear. This fear culture combined with the egocentric mentality that "it's not my problem" only allows the hooligans to win. They know they have control because people are too concerned with themselves to help anyone else out. This is no way for people to live. These senseless acts of violence need to stop.
Why do we have to be so scared of kids?! People need to friggin stand up for each other. If you're down there and you see a gang of teens going for the old lady go stand near her and tell the thugs to back off. If you see an argument, you don't have to go over and break it up but you could go get security or alert an employee. People need to care about each other again if this problem is ever going to change.
And to think, I'm going to have to catch some of this stuff to get to school next year. One more incentive to get a vehicle.

| Just read this: Man dies after an attack in subway
and what about this from last month:Victim: French Fries To Blame For SEPTA Station Gang Beating
Philly complains so much about the "brain drain" yet it's doing nothing to protect its citizens? How can you expect people to want to stay live in a place where youths can be so violent over such petty things? I mean, they beat a girl up over french fries?!! And I'm sure this latest murder was over something equally ridiculous. It's so disheartening. I don't feel safe anymore. If the majority of these problems are enacted by groups of young kids, how can I feel safe around 2-3pm when they're all getting out of school? How can I feel safe in The Gallery (their hang out of choice)? Or along Chestnut Street? Why should I have to change my habits because of them? This is the tourist area...it's downtown for crying out loud! I should be able to walk around to my hearts content feeling safe. Hell, I need to shop too! But what happens when I have something they want, some nice shoes, or some french fries, or maybe they're just pissed off because I'm a happy person...? What am I supposed to do when a gang of four people starts a confrontation with me? (Note to self: Get some self defense lessons pronto.) Obviously SEPTA needs more police who do their job (the guard just watched this recent seen play out and only went over after the confrontation looked done and the guys were fleeing- asshole punk). And the city is actively working on recruiting officers to work the beat. But it's not just about putting law enforcement out there. Clearly, there is something fundamentally wrong with the youths of Philadelphia, they have no respect for others, themselves, or anything. They act like this is Gotham City. and what I really want to know is how can we as a city fight back? There's no need for this to be Killadelphia...I don't find that joke funny at all. It's insulting at how violent things are. I feel so sad now. And like I really need a vehicle.
