popular music is completely ridiculous

chill, make urself, mariisoul, up, cartoonified, the look fixed, ahh, psych, rainbows, goapele red, generokee, the look
I tried to listen to the radio today only to be bombarded by negative and misogynistic messages.  Everything was about strippers and hoes and women supporting broke down hoodlums. WTF are these songs so popular? More importantly, how can women listen to them? No beat is that good that you can completely ignore the word bitch being repeated every 5 seconds and choruses that talk about stripping for 20 bucks. What the hell? It's really disgusting. And the only other radio station here is for country music. That has its own set of issues. I can't even find a classical station. Geez!

haha Yeah I try to steer clear of that type of music. I'm not really into it anyway. I like music that sticks with you, in a good way.

I like positive music too and I'm generally not picky with genre. I miss the hip hop of the early 90s (TLC) that had messages of uplift. There's still some of it out there, it's just not top30s stuff which is really sad.

I agree with you! Not 100% because I am guilty of listening to some of these popular songs and you're right, the beat can't beat that catchy that you ignore the lyrics but...some of us do! Unfortunately, but I guess it's a good thing that I listen to R&B a thousand times more than I listen to hip-hop! But I do like Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" song, LOL!

To say that hip-hop is all like that, or that is what I read, dissapoints me.

There is enough good hip-hop out there that do not refer to these things, such as The Pharcyde, Jurassic 5, Atmosphere, and so on and so forth.

:)

I should have been specific, I'm referring to the songs on the top 30s list here not all hip-hop. I like and appreciate the artists who still have an interesting story to share or something meaningful to say.

I kept trying to listen to the songs because some of the beats were nice but choruses are usually what get stuck in my head and I couldn't help getting all offended. Then again, I do this same over analyzing with all genres...I have a really long post to write on country music and women when I get some time. I think I just might need to listen to music w/o words when I study.

1st off - here you can find a shitloads of classical music -> http://classicalwebcast.com/onepage.htm

And as far as for those bitches and ho's in different area codes music - even though I dig the beats - most times the lyrics are 'whack'. And when asked - why women listen to this, I think Chris Rock described it the best "He ain't talkin about me'.

;) And with that said - looking forward to another post.
:D

I was listening to the regular radio because I was in a building with no internet...and trying to avoid my computer. But I will check out that online station, thanks. It's just sad at how limited the selection is here for music.

Hmmmm..I guess that is a good enough reason for most people. But I think it separates the community of women that we should have. Buying into labeling everyone else as "the other" only helps perpetuate all this negative talk.

Tell me about it...
Music has really gone to the gutters.
No body has to have talent anymore it's
sad really.

I completely agree, I have for years now.
I have come to the conclusion a long time ago that music will never be what it used to be. Long before I was born.

I think eventually we will get back to a point where popular music says something. Every now and again someone comes along with meaningful lyrics. But maybe that's part of it...to find the "good stuff" you have to search for it, and that makes it better because it's like you worked for it. :p

I don't even bother with the radio. Or most enlish music. :? I listen to Japanese music mostly, and since I haven't learned the language, it's nice that I can just listen to how the music and voices blend together~ I worry about when I actually get around to taking a class, though, since I think the lyrics could send me over the edge with their love-ness. Haha..

Spanish music used to be my relaxation tool but now that the words make sense it isn't, lol.

As far as Japanese music goes I like Utada Hikaru, Jun Senoue, Crush 40.

" just list ho attire, such as apple bottom jeans, and boots with the fur."
HO ATTIRE had me laughing for days, but it's true :/
